Throughout the year, we explore our core values, which are: Hope, Trust, Courage & Perseverance, Respect, Cooperation, Responsibility, Kindness & Friendship, Honesty, Peace and Understanding. We do this during our daily assemblies and look out for them throughout the school, earning Values Vouchers and Beads as we go.

The value we will be focusing on for the month of May is Cooperation.

Welcome to our weekly news update from across our lovely school. We have had another productive and busy week with exciting learning opportunities being explored by all of our classes.

This week, we have welcomed Paul, Peter and Paul who have supported some of our Year 5 children as they have worked toward their Levels 1 and 2 'Bike-ability'. We have all been impressed by the commitment and focus which the children showed throughout the sessions and we celebrated their achievements in our Friday assembly.

Year 4 have completed their 'Peace Education' workshops and said a huge 'Thank you' to the volunteers for their time, hard work and enthusiasm for these sessions. Year 4 have been interested each week to explore the theme linked to peace and positive values particularly enjoying the circle time activities.

Our after-school theatre group, who work alongside Emily from 'The Courtyard', shared their performance piece this week with their families, which was brilliant.

In our assemblies, we have made a start on our new value for April which is 'Respect' and in our classrooms we have thought about what this word means especially as it is one of our 3 focus rules - Ready, Respectful and Safe. We are sure that we will be able to spot this value across our school in many different ways and at different times of the day.

We also welcomed Hannah from Checkpoint who shared with us the next part of the Easter story and helped us all to get even better at the speedy song which she has taught us!

In our Friday assembly we were able to celebrate working hard in all lessons, for sharing fantastic ideas with the rest of the class, for trying hard to be the best friend that they can be, for wonderful reading, for brightening other people's day, for pushing themselves to do an activity which might be challenging and never giving up, for being an amazing 'Young Leader' and for making a sustained positive effort in maths. We also presented 2 more 'Gone Green' multiplication certificates to our Year 4 children. 'Well done' to you all.

Next week, we look forward to our enrichment morning on Tuesday and achievement assembly on Friday and other lovely Easter related activities!

Today, it is our Easter Bingo (eyes down for 6pm) and we look forward to seeing many of you there.

We hope that everyone has a super weekend and we all look forward to welcoming you to our last week of the term on Monday.

It has been another incredibly exciting, busy and productive week across our lovely school. We have appreciated further opportunities to be out in the beautiful Spring sunshine and have an enjoyable time with our friends. We have been excited to hold a 'non-uniform' day today and have raised a wonderful £148.70 towards the Easter Bingo prizes ready for next Friday.

On Thursday, we all had a great time exploring a variety of different activities to celebrate our whole school 'Science Day' with the theme of 'adapt and change'. As you can see, from our photos our children had a wonderful time exploring such creative practical workshops. A huge 'thank you' goes to all of our amazing staff who worked so hard to plan and organise this super day and to Mrs. Hedley for supporting all of the adults to do this.

Our School Council visited our friends at 'Little Orchard' this week with Mrs. Sargeant and were so pleased to have the opportunity to share in some exciting learning opportunities with them. Our school representatives really enjoyed the experience and made new friends during the visit.

Our Year 2 friends wanted to share with you pictures from their Forest School sessions. As you can see, they have had enormous fun exploring the beautiful environment, practising their teamwork and appreciating the practical activities which Vik our Forest School lead had organised. Reception also enjoyed a brilliant 'welly walk' where they had a great longer walk and had a lovely time together.

In our assemblies we have continued to focus on the values of 'perseverance and courage' considering examples of other people who have shown these qualities. On Wednesday, we welcomed back Mr. Sell who asked us to think about different ways that these qualities can be shown when setting ourselves individual challenges and aims.  We heard examples of people who have set themselves a significant challenge and had to show both of our values to achieve them.

In this week's sticker assembly we have been able to celebrate such inspiring achievements including: working hard in phonics and making amazing progress, showing courage when faced with difficulty this week, for showing developing confidence whilst swimming, demonstrating perseverance, for settling so well into our school, for showing a significant improvement in their focus during lessons, for showing excellent enthusiasm in science and for completing learning at home regularly and to a high standard. We also celebrated some more 'gone green' Year 4 certificates which is a huge achievement. Congratulations to you all.

We hope that you all have a lovely weekend and we look forward to welcoming you on Monday for the start of our new week.

This week across school, we have been able to enjoy a fantastic 5 days with lots of amazing learning and positive friendships being shared. We have all thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful sunshine this week and it certainly has felt as though Spring has arrived!

As you can see, from the lovely photos, Reception have been enjoying more super time in the outside environment exploring. During their 'welly walk' last week the children really enjoyed making and testing out binoculars whilst they were spotting different birds. It is very clear that they were very impressed with the birds which they managed to spot.

In our assemblies this week, we have been continuing to work on the values of perseverance and courage.  With Mrs. Bretherton, we shared the power of the word 'yet'. We explored different skills or activities that we may not have mastered 'yet' but that did not mean that we wouldn't be able to in time.

Hannah from 'Checkpoint' visited and started the Easter story with us all, thinking about how Christians view Jesus as a King but a King without a crown, throne, chariot or cloak. We also learnt a new song with Hannah which included some exciting actions which got quicker as the song went on!

In Friday's sticker assembly, we were able to celebrate such fantastic achievements this week including the most amazing demonstration of our 'ready, respectful, safe' rules, for growing in self-confidence, great sporting skills in PE, for working so hard on their reading skills so that real progress can be seen by everyone and for being able to work out equivalent fractions at the drop of a hat!

We also enjoyed our new values poem being read out by volunteers from Key Stage 1. Thank you for sharing these important ideas with us this morning.

'Thank you' to everyone who has supported our 'Comic Relief' efforts today and it has been amazing to see such a colourful school with lots of happiness and joy on show. We have raised a great amount to donate to this charity £160.46 so far. Thank you all.

Next week, we have particular days and activities to look forward to, including Science Day on Thursday where our classes will be exploring different themes and activities which are guaranteed to be thought provoking, full of 'wow' moments and engaging. We also have non-uniform on Friday 28th March in return for a monetary donation to support our 'Friends' Easter bingo.

We wish everyone a 'Happy Weekend' and look forward to seeing you all on Monday morning.

We would love to share with you news from our busy and productive week here at Kington Primary.

This week our Reception class had a wonderful walk around Kington visiting our local shops and they all behaved so well and were very polite.  Through their walk Reception have learnt about what a butcher, baker and green grocer sell, and where our food comes from. Thank you to all of the business owners who made us feel so welcome.

Our Year 3 and 4 netball players took part in a competition at LHS against 4 other schools and played wonderfully. They all enjoyed the opportunity to explore this game and meet other children of the same age, from different schools. Thank you to Mrs. Joyce and Mrs. Bretherton for accompanying them.

Our whole school focus on reading continues from World Book Day last week, with the exciting visit from Duncan 'The Book Man' with his £3 book sale. Everyone who was lucky enough to be able to buy one of Duncan's lovely books was really pleased with their purchases and the super variety of books available meant that some tricky decisions over which book to buy had to be made! Thank you for your support with this. We are also looking forward to sharing the entries for the 'book on a plate' competition with our families today and know that everyone will quite rightly be very impressed with the effort that had been put in by you all.

Our new 'Young Leaders' who support playtimes with our Key Stage 1 and Reception classes at lunchtimes have been on their official training accompanied by Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Welson. They had an amazing day and represented our school so well. They are all now ready to start supporting our younger children as they have fun, active and positive lunchtime playtimes. At their training our Y5 children received our 'Equal Access' award which reflects our inclusive sports and PE practice.

In our assemblies this week we have continued to think about our whole school values and celebrated Ireland's victory in the monthly values beads count and a 'well done' to Scotland who lead the overall count for the academic year to date. Our values beads continue to be a prized acknowledgement of behaviour and actions that mirror our school values. To support our whole school assemblies 2 of our school community have written a values poem which will be shared at the end of each assembly. We would like to share their poem with you.

'Let us hope and trust in each other to show courage and perseverance so we can be ready, respectful and safe in school.

We co operate best when we show responsibility and kindness in our friendships.

Help us to be honest in our school so we can be full of peace and understanding.'

In our sticker assembly today we all shared this poem and thought carefully about the meaning of the  words. We were pleased to celebrate today stickers for being so wonderful at the play leaders training, for consistently working hard, for making excellent progress in everything, for writing an amazing poem, for having a great understanding of healthier foods, for problem solving and for being such a kind and supportive friend who includes everyone.

Wow! Just brilliant reasons, congratulations to you all.

We hope that you all have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday.

What a wonderful week we have had together, which of course, has been made all the more exciting by our excellent 'World Book Day' celebrations today.

We have been amazed by the superb effort which everyone has put in with their outfits and the enthusiasm shown for the pleasure of reading.

Thank you everyone for your support with this very special day.

This week, we have started to think about our new values of courage and perseverance. We enjoyed sharing the story of 'The Hare and the Tortoise' with Mrs. Bretherton on Monday and thought about the importance of showing resilience. On Wednesday, we welcomed Hannah from Checkpoint who shared with us the idea of everyone having their own talents and how important it is to use them for the good of others and ourselves. We have also all enjoyed having a lesson with either Jamie or Jade from 'The Courtyard'. They have been in school on Thursday and today to help with our World Book Day celebrations and helped us all to understand how different texts can be explored through drama.

Today, we had an assembly packed full of celebrations and congratulations! Our weekly Head Teacher stickers were awarded for wonderful reasons including superb writing, bravery, thinking carefully about our own choices and doing our best to make positive ones, for sharing amazing contributions in lessons and brilliant all round attitude and effort. Congratulations to you all.

In addition to our stickers, we have been able to award prizes for our 'decorate the plate' competition and our comic writing challenge. It has been such a enormous and inspiring job to judge all of the entries and Mrs. Welson was very grateful to be supported in this by Miss Moss from LHS.

'Congratulations' to all 92 children, who entered one of our competitions and a special 'Well done' to our winners. We are hoping that we can display the plates in the school hall next Friday (14th March) at 3.30pm and invite families in to see the wonderful array of designs.

Due to the disco tonight, we were unable to share them today, thank you for your understanding.

Next week as part of our continuing reading focus we are welcoming Duncan from the '£3 book sale' into school on Thursday. Each class will have the opportunity to visit and buy books and there will also be time after school for families to visit.

We have all thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful weather this week and it has put a real spring into our steps! We wish you all a 'happy weekend' and look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Welcome back everyone, we hope that you all had a super half term. It has been so lovely to see everyone back this week including Mrs. Bretherton and to welcome the gorgeous days of sunshine that we have had.

This week has been a typically positive, productive and busy week across school which has included welcoming visitors into classes, opportunities for lots of PE outside and a celebration of achievement and hard work.

Year 4 welcomed Carey and Cynthia from the 'peace project' who worked with the class thinking of positivity towards others and the impact this can have. The children all represented our school brilliantly and demonstrated our school values of patience, empathy and respect.

Year 2 have started their Forest Schools sessions with Vik and had a wonderful time exploring our garden area exploring the wonders beneath our feet.

In our assemblies this week we have shared the latest 'pup-dates' for our sponsored puppies Jack and Custard. We were able to share videos of our puppies with their trainers and hear the new key skills that they are working on. Everyone was amazed at how much they have grown and developed since our last video!

On Wednesday, we welcomed Reverend Sally to lead our assembly and she shared the story of Elijah, thinking about the importance of listening to our own voice/conscience and sense of what is the right thing to do. Reverend Sally also shared another spectacular candle with us!

In our celebration assembly today we have been so impressed to hear about the effort and determination being shown in all year groups. Stickers were awarded today for many positive reasons which included: being a supportive friend to others, creating the most amazing poetry, for growing in confidence and therefore contributing more to lessons, being a really helpful person around school, for adapting to change so well, for the most wonderful Reception reading (the whole school were amazed at the vocabulary being read independently) and for showing their best. We also awarded 2 achievement certificates from last half term. What an inspiring way to end our week together!

We are all looking forward to our 'World Book Day' celebrations next week and would like to remind everyone that any entries for the 'decorate the plate' as a character or title of a book and the writing competition (details were shared on the reading newsletter email) are due in on Monday 3rd March. Next Friday, the 7th, will be the day when, those who wish to, come dressed up as a character from a story, poem, comic or information text. We can't wait to share photos with you next Friday.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone, hopefully the sunshine will last so that we can all spend some time outside and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday.

We have all had a lovely, busy last week of the half term and it has been jam packed with moments of celebration, enrichment activities, visits within our community and opportunities to explore our value of 'trust'.

On Tuesday, we had our third enrichment morning of this school year for all children from Year 1 through to Year 6. The children always welcome the opportunity to work with their enrichment group of friends and to explore different activities with adults across school.

Our fantastic adults all work so hard to make sure that this morning is purposeful, engaging and enjoyable for all.

As you can see from the photos Beech group, who visited Kington Court, did a fantastic job of sharing songs and poems and made everyone a 'Happy February' card which were treasured by the residents. This is such an important element of our enrichment community activities.

Our other groups had a wonderful time exploring ideas to help promote our school on our new updated website (hoping to launch in the next half term), learning about making noodles as a healthy meal option, being part of activities to promote mindfulness such as yoga, supporting our wider community with litter picking and focusing on still life using different media.

This week, Year 5 visited Kington library where Angela welcomed them back and shared stories with them. This will have been good preparation Y5 for World Book Day!

In our assemblies this week, we have thought more about the value of 'trust' and how important this is to healthy friendships. We welcomed Hannah from 'Checkpoint' on Wednesday and enjoyed the story which she shared with us.

We have also shared the video diaries of our guide dog puppies, Custard and Jack, which we all enjoyed seeing. Both of our sponsored puppies have made a really positive start to their training at the National Training Centre and we look forward to further pup-dates!

Our celebration assemblies on Thursday and Friday were a chance to say 'Congratulations and well done!' for many different reasons. We were able to award the class attendance prize for this half term to Years 2 and 5 who drew with exactly the same attendance figure! They are looking forward to planning their reward after the holiday.

We also awarded our individual prize for children who have been given one of our 'values tickets'. Everyone is working so hard to reflect our values in all that they do and there were so many tickets in the hat, congratulations if you had been given a ticket for the draw.

Our 'achievement' assembly today was made extra special by our important visitor....Mrs. Bretherton, who visited us this morning. We were all so excited and pleased to see her. We were all proud to hear of the different reasons that our certificate children had been chosen for and these included; for making amazing progress in spelling and reading, for being a positive role model giving 100% all of the time, for showing resilience and perserverance, for working really hard to improve presentation and for developing healthier friendships. Mrs. Bretherton even surprised Mrs. Welson with her own certificate! At the end of our assembly we were treated to a taster from Mrs. Darch and Mrs. Wood, from the upcoming Kington pantomime 'Dick Whittington', we were all very excited and entertained by their song.

Across KS2 it has been the first time presenting the draw prize for completing homework and collecting the stamps. Our happy winners were really excited with their prizes and we look forward to our next draw next half term.

Today, you will have been emailed our annual reading newsletter which has details of the whole school competition linked to World Book Day (the paper plate which has come home today) and information about how we are celebrating this special day along with information about reading in our school. Please let us know if you did not receive the newsletter.

We hope that everyone has a 'happy half term' and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday 24th February and hearing about the things you have done or places that you have visited.

This week we have been starting to think about our new value 'Trust' and already have a really clear understanding of what this means and what it looks like in action.

It has been another busy, productive week across school with cricket coaching in Years 2, 3, 4 and 5, Peace workshop work in Year 5 and we welcomed Mr. Spencer back for PE today which was lovely.

Our school librarians had a special visit from Angela, who works in Kington and Leominster libraries, and she gave us some brilliant advice about how to keep our school library engaging, organised and easy to use. Classes across school continue to visit Kington library at least once a term and this is a very important community link for us. We encourage you all to become members and to enjoy time exploring their wonderful books.

Last week we also had some special visitors in school who were particularly enjoyed by our Reception class....chicks! Our Reception children loved seeing the chicks up close and were so careful and caring when welcoming them to their fantastic learning space. Reception also combined their weekly 'welly walk' with their story 'We're going on a bear hunt' and found the most amazing things in nature as they walked.

This week we have been so pleased to celebrate Headteacher stickers for really super reasons including amazing progress over the half term, showing resilience when faced with a difficult situation,  being a supportive friend, brilliant spelling, working with superb focus, effort and determination and showing fantastic cricketing skills.

We hope that everyone has a great weekend and we look forward to welcoming you back on Monday morning, ready for our last week before the half term holiday!

It has been such a productive and enjoyable week across school . We have all enjoyed the moments of beautiful sunshine and had some lovely time outside.

We started the week with Mrs. Welson's assembly with the theme of 'hopes and dreams'.  We have been gifted a copy of the enchanting story 'The Little Ocean' written by Matthew Berto. Mrs. Welson shared this story with everyone and explained about the characters in the book having their own hopes and dreams. The book has an important local connection, which Mrs. Welson also shared, because it is linked to Annasley Park who is from our local area and attended LHS. One of her personal hopes and dreams has been to row across the Atlantic Ocean on her own to raise important funds for 4 charities. She is setting sail in the next couple of days (weather dependent) and we will track her journey as much as we can. The storybook and her own personal story were both interesting to share and inspiring for all of us.

This week we have also welcomed Reverend Sally to lead her first assembly with us. She shared an important story for Christians about Jesus visiting a temple and lit a very exciting candle to help explain that candles are important objects for people who follow Christianity. We impressed Reverend Sally with our wonderful singing as we shared our 'I have a song' assembly song.

This week Head Teacher stickers have been given for such lovely reasons including brilliant maths, always giving 100% in all that they do, showing resilience when faced with a tricky challenge, being fantastic role models, being able to try new things and show determination when doing so and for being a good friend. Congratulations to you all.

In our Friday assembly we also awarded our weekly attendance prize and were all very impressed with Year 5, who last week, achieved an attendance of 99.2%! Amazing Year 5, we hope that you have enjoyed your extra playtime today.

We hope that you all have a wonderful weekend and look forward to welcoming you all back on Monday. Unbelievably, it will of course, be February on Monday and so we will start exploring together our new value which is 'Trust'.
